My “Lazy Girl” Approach to Fitness

Reading time:

1–2 minutes

I used to believe you had to “grind” to get results- in work as well as fitness.

But after having a kid and having to be more picky with what I take on, I’m shocked at the results of small, consistent amounts of time on fitness. And I don’t mean H.I.I.T.

H.I.I.T always left me out of breath, feeling awful for an hour, and sore the next day. I have to be able to run after a small monster at any moment’s notice. I don’t have that recovery time.

So I’m taking the Duolingo approach: as long as it’s easy enough to do consistently no matter what my day is like, it’s a lot better than an hour at a gym I don’t have time to visit.

I’m doing 10 mins of stretchy exercise bands (and booty bands) a day, and seeing results in the first week, without feeling like a stiff zombie.

Yes, at some point I will need to ramp it up as I get more fit. In terms of resistance and reps – and that will take more time. But this is the first time I’ve ever worked out without hating every moment AND seeing results so fast.

Today, I pulled out the giant pilates ball I used during pregnancy and did some light core work. Normally, I use workouts by blogliates, just toned way down, because Cassi’s workouts are deceptively intense.

Not feeling destroyed in the first quarter of a workout is way more motivating than pushing myself to do the whole thing, I’ve learned. I was always afraid of the opposite.

Tip: don’t be afraid to do a lot less than the workout, at a much lower intensity. As long you as you keep doing it regularly, you’ll see results.

  1. This is what I’m trying to do to get back into fitness. Something is better than nothing so if I can just get used to moving again without putting pressure on myself (light walk, stretches, light strength) then I’m hoping that’ll encourage me to amp back up to enjoying more intense cardio and strength again!
